winning essay: let me first start off by saying winfree is a hard school. it's no secret that the kids attend there because they have problems. when mrs. barnes first started teaching science there last year i despised her. she didn't give up on me though; she worked through our differences and showed she cared. that was something i had never seen a teacher do. no matter what kinds of horrible things i could say to her she never lost her cool. after a few difficult months i finally began to accept that she wasn't going to give up on me. i hated her for it and i loved her for it at the same time. mrs. barnes showed me that i could do things i had no clue i could. although i graduated last year i still remember the dedication she has to her students. because of her, i know that i can do anything. i'm not a screw up; it took one person who truly cared to teach me such a valuable lesson. without her guiding me, i probably wouldn't have finished my education; i credit my current status in college to her. if anybody deserves a car, it's her. |
