winning essay: a difference exists between an average teacher and a good teacher's character. moreover, two key differences exist between a good teacher and an outstanding teacher's dedication and vision. upon meeting mr. ted stephens i sensed his character; i knew i would have a good teacher for my business typing class. he showed the responsibility to thoroughly teach his curriculum, the tenacity to work with rowdy students, and the integrity to not pass negative judgment. mr. stephens passed judgment on me, however. he felt the work i submitted was top-notch and encouraged me to participate in a typing contest run by the business professionals of america organization. i decided to try, though the school's bpa advisors and i did not feel i would fare well. but mr. stephens had a vision we could not perceive, and after a first place finish i found myself in orlando, florida participating in the national competition. i have never before had a teacher raise my expectations so high, and i am not the only one. every day, students at wylie high school have a golden opportunity to discover new heights and a unique mentor and a man who deserves a token of his student's appreciation. |
