winning essay:
leslie crook is the tennis coach at nhs. nhs is located in justin, tx and she lives in burleson, tx. so everyday she drives almost 100 miles roundtrip just for her players...her kids. she is truly a mother to all of us. i've been through so many ups and downs in my life, but she's showed me love. even at times when i have betrayed her trust to be foolish she's always given me second chances and gave me tough love and treated the tennis players and i as if we were her own children. she'll never give up on anyone. coach crook always has believed in me even when my own parents didn't. she has gone through so much in her personal life and she's like a tough solider and never stops fighting. just in the past year she had 2 family deaths that were really hard on her. but she never let it get to her. we've never had a substitute. i started playing tennis for the first time in my life two years ago when i got cut of the basketball team and she took me into her arms and me having never stepped on a tennis court, she taught me how to play the game well. i worked so hard and with her guidance i'm the #4 best player in the school. coach always takes time away from spending with her own children that need her too to make us better players. without her i wouldn't be alive, literally. i've gotten so depressed sometimes and one night my best friend told coach crook to call me to save my life and coach called me and made everything all right. she makes me understand that life is tough but you have to make the most out of it. now that i have tough decisions on where to go to college she's always been there for me to give me and rest of the other kids guidance. that woman has been simply amazing and indescribable. a lot of people take her kindness for granted though. about 2 months ago she got into a car accident with her barely new car. she was in the hospital, but she came running back to the tennis courts even though her doctor told her not to. she said, ''i have to get back to my kids.'' she's dedicated her whole life to us and she absolutely deserves a new car especially after her car accident. please do take her into consideration. she means a lot to a lot of people. she's not there to make money (seriously she's a coach...how much do high school coaches make anyway? not much), she's there to change lives. that she has done...she's definitely touched my life and many others too.
